Baron Egremont

Baron Egremont is a hereditary British title of nobility , which was awarded once in the Peerage of England and in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Awards

The title was first created on November 20, 1449 by Letters patent in the Peerage of England for Sir Thomas Percy . He was a younger son of Henry Percy, 2nd Earl of Northumberland of the House of Percy . The title expired with the childless death of his son, the 2nd baron, in spring 1497.

In the second bestowal on November 27, 1963 in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, the title Baron Egremont , of Petworth in the County of Sussex , was bestowed on the Hon. John Wyndham . He was the son of Edward Wyndham, 5th Baron Leconfield and inherited this on October 17, 1967 as 6th Baron Leconfield . Both titles have been united since then. Today's title holder has been his son Max Wyndham as 7th Baron Leconfield and 2nd Baron Egremont since 1972 .
