Baron Leconfield , of Leconfield in the East Riding of the County of York , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

The family seat is Petworth House in Petworth , West Sussex .

Award

The title was created for Colonel George Wyndham on August 14, 1859 . He was the illegitimate eldest son of George Wyndham, 3rd Earl of Egremont .

His great-grandson, the Hon. John Wyndham , son of the 5th Baron, was also raised to Baron Egremont , of Petworth in the County of Sussex on November 27, 1963 . Since he inherited his father on October 17, 1967 as the 6th Baron Leconfield, the two titles have been combined.

Today's title holder has been his son Max Wyndham as 7th Baron Leconfield and 2nd Baron Egremont since 1972 .
