Baron Hamilton of Glenawly

Baron Hamilton of Glenawly , in the County of Fermanagh , was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Ireland .

The ancestral seat of the barons was Monea Castle in County Fermanagh.

Award

The title was awarded on March 2, 1661 by King Charles II to the Scottish-Irish nobleman Hugh Hamilton . He served as a colonel in the Swedish army and he had already been awarded the Swedish title of Baron Hamilton de Deserf ("Friherre Hamilton af Deserf") by King Charles X Gustav in 1654 for his services .

Both titles expired when his only son William Hamilton, 2nd Baron Hamilton of Glenawly , died childless in an accident in February 1681.
