Richard Lyons, 1st Viscount Lyons

Viscount Lyons , of Christ Church in the County of Southampton , was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Award and subordinate titles

The title was created on November 24, 1881 for the diplomat Richard Lyons, 2nd Baron Lyons .

The Viscount had inherited the subordinate titles Baron Lyons , of Christchurch in the County of Southampton, and Baronet , of Christchurch in the County of Southampton, from his father in 1858 , which he inherited on June 25, 1856 and July 29, 1840, respectively had been awarded.

On November 24, 1887 it was announced that the Viscount should also be made Earl Lyons , but he died before the corresponding Letters patent had been issued. Since the Viscount remained unmarried and childless, all his titles expired on his death on December 5, 1887.
