Baron Ogle was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of England .

Awarding and other titles

The title was created on July 26, 1461 as Barony by writ for Sir Robert Ogle , when he was appointed to the royal parliament by Writ of Summons .

When the 7th Baron died in 1597 without sons, the title in Abeyance fell between his two daughters. This condition was ended when the younger sister died in favor of the older, the 8th baroness. Her son and heir, William Cavendish, 1st Viscount Mansfield , was promoted to Duke of Newcastle in 1665 . With the death of his son, the 2nd Duke, the barony fell again in Abeyance between his three daughters, the other titles expired. The Abeyance continues to this day.
