Baron Reith

Baron Reith , of Stonehaven in the County of Kincardine , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Award

The title was created in 1940 for Sir John Reith , the first director general of the BBC . At that time he was Minister of Information in the Churchill cabinet .

In 1971, when Reith died, the barony passed to his only son. In the following year, he personally renounced the title. The title has been suspended since then and will be revived when he dies.
