Baron Sinha
Baron Sinha , of Raipur in the Presidency of Bengal , is a hereditary British nobility title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
Award
The title was created on February 14, 1918 for the Indian lawyer and Under-Secretary of State for India Sir Satyendra Prasanna Sinha .
On his death, his eldest son, Aroon Kumar Sinha, could not prove the legitimacy of his inheritance claim to the title because he was born at a time when India did not yet have a system for registering births and marriages. After a long controversy, the title was finally confirmed on July 25, 1939 by the Committee for Privileges and Conduct of the House of Lords . A new controversy arose when, after India became independent, the 2nd Baron was refused a British passport. It was not until 1955 that he received a passport that identified him as a British subject. After his death, his descendants entitled to inheritance did not validly assert their de iure claim to the title at the House of Lords or College of Arms .
