Baron Stanley

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Baron Stanley was a hereditary British title ( Barony by writ ) in the Peerage of England .

History of the title

The title was created on January 15, 1456 for Sir Thomas Stanley when he was called to the English Parliament by Writ of Summons .

His son was raised to Earl of Derby on October 27, 1485 , and both titles remained united until the 5th Earl's death on April 19, 1594. When he died without male descendants, the barony in Abeyance fell between his three daughters, the earl title, however, is only inheritable in the male line and fell to his brother as the 6th Earl .

On February 23, 1921, the Abeyance for Edith Abney-Hastings, 12th Countess of Loudoun ended as 7th Baroness, who already carried the title Countess of Loudoun . When she left no sons on her death on February 24, 1960, the title fell again in Abeyance between her five daughters. Today's legitimate co-heirs of the title are the following descendants of four of these five daughters:

  • Simon Abney-Hastings, 15th Earl of Loudoun (* 1981) (1/4 share)
  • Sheena Williams, b. Wakefield (* 1941) (1/8 share)
  • Flora Purdie, b. Hubble (* 1957) (1/8 share)
  • Robert Marcel de Fresnes (* 1970) (1/4 share)
  • Norman Angus Maclaren (* 1948) (1/4 share)
