Baron ffrench
Baron ffrench , of Castle ffrench in the County of Galway , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Ireland .
Award
The title was created on February 14, 1798 for Rose ffrench , widow of Sir Charles ffrench, 1st Baronet († 1784).
The award was in recognition of the achievements of her son, Sir Thomas ffrench, 2nd Baronet . As a Catholic, he had campaigned for the rights of Catholics in Ireland. The award was made to his mother, since she was nominally Protestant and King George III. had refused the ennoblement of a Catholic. When Rose died in 1805, her son Thomas finally inherited the title.
From his father, the 2nd Baron had inherited the subordinate title of Baronet , of Clogher in the County of Galway, which was awarded to him on August 17, 1779 in the Baronetage of Ireland.
