The Barrier volcanic complex is located on Lake Turkana , the largest inland body of water in Kenya . The barrier consists of four overlapping shield volcanoes , the Kalolenyang, the Kakorinya, the Liakiu West and the Liakiu East. The Kakorinya caldera was created 92,000 years ago with a diameter of 3.8 kilometers. Several lava flows formed within the caldera. On the south and north flanks of the volcano there are some ash cones and lava flows. Fields with sulphurous vapors are located within the caldera and on the west and south flanks of the volcano.
The following historical eruptions of the volcano are known: 7710 BC. ± 200 years (south flank), 1030 ± 150 years, 1050 ± 150 years, 1090 ± 50 years, 1871 ± 3 years (north flank, Teleki crater), 1888, 1895, 1897, 1917, December 31, 1921 ± 1 Year.
