Bart Preneel

Bart Preneel (* 1963 ) is a Belgian cryptologist and professor at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven . He is President of the International Association for Cryptologic Research . His significant contributions in the field of symmetric cryptography include the co-development of the Miyaguchi-Preneel variant for the construction of hash functions based on block ciphers, the hash function RIPEMD-160 and the stream cipher Trivium .

He heads the research group COSIC (Computer Security and Industrial Cryptograph) at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. He has been a full member of the Academia Europaea since 2013 .
