description

The Baru Oroba is usually made of leather, but metal versions are also in use. The armor is worked like a vest . The shoulders are wide and slightly bent upwards at the ends. Broad folds run lengthways across the shell. The back part protrudes in the spinal area and is provided with curved spikes to provide special protection in this area and to decorate the armor. In the neck area , a projection consisting of two metal discs connected to one another is worked out, which serves to protect the neck from blows. The Baru Oroba can be made simple or decorated. The Baru Oroba is used by ethnic groups on the Nias Island.
