features

Barynotus moerens belongs to the larger weevils with a length of about 11 mm. The light brown weevil has pronounced rows of dots on the wing covers.

Occurrence

The species occurs in the Palearctic . It is widespread in Europe and is represented in the British Isles (England, Wales). The species was introduced in North America.

Way of life

The species occurs mainly in forest areas. The forest ringwort ( Mercurialis perennis ) is considered the main food and host plant of Barynotus moerens . The larvae feed on the roots of the plant. The beetles are particularly common in May.
