The Basler Brot (in Basel : Basel Laibli ) is a bread made of yeast dough . It is one of the most popular types of bread in Switzerland and one of the few types of Swiss bread that is spread across language borders.

Basler bread is an elongated, oval loaf. It is characterized by its soft crumb with large, irregular pores and a crispy, floured dark crust without incisions.

Basler Brot is made from a soft yeast dough with a very high water content. The wheat flour can be brown flour or semi-white flour. After proofing, the loaves are only lightly shaped and turned in flour to let the structure of the dough loose. When baking, two loaves are joined together with their ends. Baking takes place in a very hot oven. Initially, steam ensures that the crust does not develop too much.

Basler bread is offered in 500 gram and 1 kilogram loaves, in bakeries often in 250 gram loaves, sometimes also in 400 gram loaves.
