Batch number is a term used in data processing . With the help of the batch number, individual sections of a large file can be viewed.

Batch numbers in family research ( genealogy ) are of great importance when searching the International Genealogical Index (IGI) of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (" Mormons "). It is a unique 7-digit code made up of max. a letter and number used by Mormons to catalog the genealogical resources they have collected. The majority of the sources used are parish registers and civil status registers .

Examples of a batch number : M945981, M945982, C945991, C945992.

The content can be found in the letter.

  • M = weddings / proclamations
  • C = births / baptisms male and female
  • J = births / baptisms male only
  • K = births / baptisms only female

The numbers are assigned to a specific register in a specific location for a specific period of time.

However, there are also batch numbers that only consist of digits. These registers then contain data from several locations.

The LDS Church database can be accessed free of charge on the Internet:

For a meaningful search query, however, a list would be necessary which assigns the batch numbers to the locations. Such a list has not yet been published by the LDS Church. There are hand-made incomplete lists on the Internet.
