Bath Botanical Gardens
Bath Botanical Gardens is a botanical garden in Bath in the eastern Jamaican district of Saint Thomas Parish , about 21 km northeast of Morant Bay .
The garden was laid out in 1779 on a resolution of the Jamaica House of Assembly on approximately 0.4 hectares. The first director was Doctor Thomas Clarke of Bath Hospital , near the hot sulfur spring. His successor was the botanist Thomas Dancer.
As a result of regular flooding of the garden by the nearby Plantain Garden River , the plant was largely destroyed in 1862. Due to its historical importance, however, it was maintained and renovated in 2007.
