Los Machucambos
Los Machucambos are a band that was founded in August 1959 in the Parisian Latin Quarter and which had great success with their boleros , cha-cha-chas , rumba and merengue songs, especially in the 1960s in Europe and the USA .
The trio was originally called Los Acapulcos . The name Los Machucambos comes from the South American armadillo, the shell of which is needed to make the Charango .
From the original formation with the Costa Rican Julia Cortes , Spain's Rafael Gayoso and the Peruvians Romano Zanotti are still the two musicians and singers Gayoso and Zanotti here, along with two singers who have joined since the 1970s: Mariana Gilbert and Maria Licata .
The formation has released 19 albums and 9 compilations so far, most recently with the title Pepito in 2009.
