Alexander of Plato
Alexander von Plato (born February 25, 1942 in Salzwedel , Saxony-Anhalt ) is a German historian and author.
He studied philosophy, sociology and theater studies at the Free University of Berlin and after receiving his doctorate in 1973 worked as a director of studies and lecturer at the Evangelisches Studienwerk Villigst.
In the 1970s he was at the head of the Communist Party of Germany (organizational structure) .
1980–1983 he was a research assistant at the oral history expert Lutz Niethammer at the University of Essen . He then moved to the Fernuniversität Hagen , where he founded the Institute for History and Biography in 1993, which he headed until 2007.
1996–2000 he was secretary of the International Oral History Association , 2006–2008 vice president. He is co-editor and editor of BIOS - Journal of Biography Research, Oral History and Life Course Analysis . Von Plato was a scientific advisor to the TV documentary drama Deutschlandspiel , published in 2000 .
In 2012 he received the John G. Diefenbaker Prize , which is intended to enable cooperation with a Canadian university.
