Belly smack

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A belly slap or belly splash is a colloquial term for a wanted or unsuccessful jump into the water, where you hit the water with the whole body length, but especially with the belly . Especially in Austria, the belly splash is known as a belly spot . On the Lower Rhine he is also known as a belly planker .

consequences

The result is reddening of the affected skin areas caused by the great forces, up to bruises and strains. The fact that a belly slap from a 10-meter board can lead to death, as the stomach can burst open and the innards can come out, is only a wives' tale. On the other hand, sudden back pressure of the water on the ear can cause cracks in the eardrum ( barotrauma ), sometimes associated with damage to the inner ear. Shock can also be triggered, which can lead to drowning. Unsuccessful jumps from a great height or with high rotational acceleration (somersault, screw jump) can result in spinal injuries or even a broken neck. It is therefore necessary to always rescue a person with a jump injury with a board or something similar so that his spine is not moved and is further damaged.
