The Bavarian Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry Center (BayBioMS) is a new science and technology platform of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) on the Freising-Weihenstephan campus ; it therefore belongs to the Weihenstephan Science Center (WZW) of the TUM. BayBioMS offers modern proteomics and the advanced tools of metabolomics for use in biomedicine, in plant and food research both within TUM and for research partners outside the university. The center is accredited by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and receives financial support from it, the Free State of Bavaria and TUM.

Goals and Strategies

This new platform has the following goals and far-reaching strategies to advance research in the above areas:

  • Providing access to the latest LC-MS devices and the latest knowledge in the field of proteomics and metabolomics for research in the life sciences (plants - biotechnology - food / nutrition - medicine)
  • Promote the development of the latest LC-MS-based technology and applications for the life sciences
  • Offering scientific and technical advice to scientists planning a research project in the field of proteomics and metabolomics
  • Conducting courses for the very latest training and the promotion of young scientists

Lectures and seminars

BayBioMS offers training in the form of series of seminars, workshops and summer seminars. Most of the courses are aimed at the individual training of Bachelor and Master students, doctoral students and researching postdocs for their own projects, which are carried out in cooperation with BayBioMS.
BayBioMS offers several seminars designed to deepen knowledge in the field of mass spectrometry. For example the series of seminars: "Advanced Mass Spectrometry", the seminar (once a year) "Metabolomics - An Introduction" and special seminars (e.g. "1st Munich Metabolomics Meeting").
