Tetradrachm of the Baydad

Baydad (also Bagadates I or Bagadat ) was a ruler of the Persis who lived at the end of the 3rd or the beginning of the 2nd century BC. Ruled, but its exact date is disputed. So far he is only known from his coins, which show his head on one side in profile, on the other side he is seated on a throne or stands on other coins in front of a fire altar . The inscriptions are Aramaic. The style shows a mixture of Greek and Persian elements and is one of the best works of ancient coin art. He is the first ruler of Persis known from coins. He was probably a local ruler under the Seleucids .
