Bayview (Toronto Subway)
Bayview is an underground subway station in Toronto . It is on the Sheppard Line of the Toronto Subway , at the intersection of Sheppard Avenue and Bayview Avenue. The station has a central platform and is used by an average of 8,990 passengers every day (2015).
The Bayview Village shopping center is in the immediate vicinity. There are transfer options to three bus routes. The station opened on November 24, 2002, along with the entire Sheppard Line between Sheppard-Yonge and Don Mills .
The architectural office Stevens Group Architects was responsible for the design of the station . Particularly noticeable is the entrance building on the northeast side of the intersection with a long, angled, overhanging roof that is reminiscent of the expressionist architecture of the mid-20th century. The distribution level is adorned with Op Art works of art by Panya Clark Espinal. Depending on where the viewer stands, the objects painted on the walls and floor seem to float in the air.
