Beach Head and Beach Head II: The Dictator Strikes Back! are computer games that were published in 1983 and 1985 for the home computer Commodore 64 . They were programmed by Bruce Carver for Access Software . Both parts were ported to various home computers.

Game content

Beach Head

In Beach Head, the player takes command of a military invasion on an island controlled by a dictator. In different parts of the game, the player controls warships and tanks. In one phase of the game, the player operates e.g. B. the weapon systems of a warship and tries first to shoot down enemy planes and later to sink the ships of the enemy fleet.

Beach Head II

In the sequel Beach Head II: The Dictator Strikes Back! two parties compete against each other. Soldiers attacking as parachutists are attacked by the dictator's troops with a machine gun. The attackers have to jump over obstacle walls, but can also throw hand grenades at the opponent. The sound effects, which were unusually realistic for the time, are striking. B. “I'm Hit!”, “Medic!”, “You can't hurt me” or screams of pain.

The Amstrad version had no speech samples.

In Germany, Beach Head was on the list of media harmful to minors from August 1985 to July 2010 . It was removed from the list because 25 years had passed since it was included.

Beach Head is one of the first computer games to be indexed in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Beach Head II was indicated in Germany from November 1985: Initially for two months according to §15 of the GjS applicable at the time , and permanently from January 1986. In October 2010 the game was deleted from the list according to §18 Paragraph 7 JuSchG.

During the indexing period, the games in Germany could only be marketed subject to certain conditions.

The C64 version of the computer game Beach Head 2 was a Sizzler and received 90% of the overall rating in issue 4 of Zzap! 64 . The Spectrum version of the home computer game Beach Head 2 received a lower 74% in the sister magazine, Crash .
