Bean is a small and fast word processing program with some formatting options, but not nearly as many as with other word processing programs such as B. Microsoft Word or OpenOffice.org Writer. The aim of the project is not to create an alternative to the large word processing programs, but to provide a functional and fast word processor with good operating system integration for Mac OS X.

history

Bean was first released in 2006 with a focus on speed, stability and simplicity.

After 5 years the program was completely rewritten and published in March 2010 | 3 =}. The main reason for this was the community's suggestions for improvement.

Bean is available as a multilingual version.

In November 2012, the developer announced that he would no longer be able to develop the software for reasons of time, but he wanted to continue to provide bug fixes and security updates.

File formats

In addition to pure text files , Bean can process files in the universally popular Rich Text Format (RTF) and formatted text with images (RTFD). Bean can also use the * .doc; * .xml; Read and save .webarchive. In the version for Mac OS X 10.5 it is also possible to use the newer * .docx and the OpenOffice.org format * .odt. Bean also offers with * .bean a format similar to RTF, compatible with RTFD .

Bean can also export PDF files and has an integrated word counter.
