Beatrice Beck Schimmer

Beatrice Beck Schimmer (* 1963 ) is a Swiss professor of anesthesiology and director of university medicine at the University of Zurich , ETH and four university hospitals in Switzerland.

Career

Beatrice Beck Schimmer studied human medicine at the University of Bern and received her doctorate there in 1988. Beck Schimmer's research area includes the subject of organ protection on the one hand, and the areas of nanomedicine on the other . She has obtained numerous competitive third-party funding for both research directions. Since 2011, she has been actively promoting young talent, especially for career planning for women, with mentoring programs and the Filling the Gap career development program of the medical faculty. Since August 1, 2018, she has been Director of the University Medicine Zurich and a member of the university management, which has been reorganized.

She is the first woman in this role. According to Susanne Anderegg, Tages-Anzeiger, it is “a miracle” that “there is now a woman at the head of University Medicine in Zurich.”

Mandates

From 2012 to 2018 she was a member of the Research Council of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). From 2016 as President of the Specialized Committee Careers with a seat on the Presidium of the SNSF. From 2017 to mid-2018, she also held the position of Vice Dean for Academic Promotion and Equal Opportunities in the Medical Faculty of the University of Zurich .

Life

Beatrice Beck Schimmer is the mother of two children.
