Beckley Furnace is an old blast furnace for the extraction of pig iron . The industrial monument is a state park and has been listed as the only industrial monument on the National Register of Historic Places since February 14, 1978 . The furnace is located on the Blackberry River , a tributary of the Housatonic River near Canaan (Connecticut) . The basic features of the blast furnace were built by John Adam Beckley in 1847. The industrial plant was used until 1919.

In 1946 the facility was established as a state park with only 5 hectares under the name Beckley Furnace Industrial Monument . It is also known as the East Canaan Iron Furnace Industrial Monument . The furnace vent was restored in 1999. The facility is the heart of the Upper Housatonic Valley's Iron Heritage Trail and is directly adjacent to a plot of the Housatonic State Forest .
