Command cache

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The instruction cache ( English instruction cache ) is a special cache -Speicher for caching instructions. This cache is mainly used in advanced pipeline technologies such as those found in superscalar processors.

This division of the general cache memory into instruction and data cache is also known as the Harvard cache architecture, based on and as a specialization of the Harvard architecture .

The instruction cache, like the data cache, is usually located on the processor chip and serves as the primary cache. This avoids structural conflicts when fetching commands and reading or writing data at the same time. The secondary cache usually combines the instruction and data cache again in a general cache memory.
