Beguinage Deilinghofen

Former beguinage

The beguinage Deilinghofen was a women's monastery in Deilinghofen , a current district of Hemer ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

The beguinage was probably founded in 1564 and was abandoned from 1638 after a plague epidemic in Deilinghofen. From 1655 the building was used as a pastorate by the evangelical parish priest . An inscription reminded of the earlier use:

“The nunnery that stood here
has been demolished, except for the edge.
If it is best to relax here,
death will come and show the door.
40 nuns died of the plague,
what was left - a small remainder.
They praised God and Jesus Christ
that he had been gracious to them. "

Today, the name reminds Widum street in Deilinghofen even to the former collegiate.
