Housing number

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The habitation rate is the average number of residents in a house .

Before 1800 it was usually not customary to collect the exact number of inhabitants , but only the names or the number of independent households or fireplaces in a village or town . In order to get from the sum of the heads of household to the population of a municipality or then to the population of a certain country, the population history determines or estimates the number of residents . Generally one assumes a head count of 5 around 1600. In fact, this number is very different socially, spatially and temporally. More precise figures can only be obtained by working out a local family register or in the rare case that all residents of a house were numerically recorded in a tax list before 1700 .
