Bejtexhinj
Bejtexhinj , from Ottoman-Turkish bey (i) t = double verse, is the name of a literary genre that was widespread in Albania in the 18th century. This included poetic works in verse form.
The Bejtexhinj literature was mainly cultivated by Muslim authors. They wrote Albanian in Arabic script ( Elifba ). Formally, the Bejtexhinj literature followed the traditions of Arabic, Turkish and Persian poetry as it was widespread in many parts of the Ottoman Empire at the time. Many Turkish, Arabic and Persian terms can therefore be found in the vocabulary of the traditional poems. Thematically, the Bejtexhinj literature was broadly diversified: It dealt with religious questions, there are love poems and also socially critical works. Important authors of this style were: Nezim Frakulla , Sulejman Naibi and Hasan Zyko Kamberi .
