Beli (giant)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Beli is a giant in Norse mythology . He fell fighting the god Freyr , who killed him with a deer antler for lack of his sword. In Kenningar Freyr is often called bani Belja ("Belis killer").

Since Freyr gave his sword to his servant Skirnir to stop the hand of the Gerdr , and the latter complained that she would never marry her brother's killer, it is assumed that Gerdr and Beli were siblings.

Beli is also the name of a horse in the Kálfsvísa , a poem in the Snorra Edda .
