BellSouth was an American telecommunications holding company based in Atlanta , Georgia . BellSouth was one of seven Regional Bell Operating Companies that emerged from antitrust proceedings by the US Department of Justice against AT&T in 1984. AT&T was forced to give up its holdings in all regional telephone companies in this process.

At the end of 2006, the company was again acquired by AT&T and merged with them again. The combined company kept the company AT&T and at the same time some joint ventures between the companies were consolidated in this way ( Cingular Wireless , Yellowpages.com ).

BellSouth's services are now offered on the market under the names AT&T South and AT&T Southeast. The use of the BellSouth company ceased in June 2007.

BellSouth was the last of the regional companies that emerged after the break-up of AT&T that still used the Bell logo.
