The Bendegó meteorite ( Portuguese Meteorito do Bendegó or Pedra do Bendegó , German Meteorit von Bendegó ) is an iron meteorite that was discovered towards the end of the 18th century in what is now the Brazilian state of Bahia . With a mass of 5360 kilograms, it is the most massive meteorite found in Brazil.

The meteorite was discovered near the present-day city of Monte Santo , with most sources mentioning 1784 as the year of discovery, but others also mention the year 1774. After the first attempts at transport had failed, the meteorite initially remained not far from its original location. In 1887/1888 the meteorite, estimated at 7000 kilograms at the time, was brought to Salvador by land and from there reached Rio de Janeiro by steamship . From 1888 it was then exhibited in the Brazilian National Museum. It has an irregular shape and measures a little more than two meters in its largest dimension (dimensions are given slightly differently such as 2.20 m × 1.45 m × 0.58 m or 2.15 m × 1.50 m × 0 , 66 m).

He survived the fire in the Brazilian National Museum in September 2018.
