UGC 11178 or NGC 6599 = NGC 6600 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Hercules. Their distance can be estimated to be approximately 44 million parsecs based on the redshift .
The first photometric investigation of the galaxy was carried out in a study of some lenticular galaxies by Barway et al., Which was published in 2005. They found that the distribution of the absorbance values indicate a ring-like structure. It was also noticeable that the galaxy has a peculiar ratio of the brightnesses measured in different wavelength ranges. The authors indicated that further research would be necessary to determine the exact nature of this object and excluded the galaxy from further analysis. In a study from 2009 with the same lead author, UGC 11178 evaded analysis due to the poor signal-to-noise ratio of the recordings.
UGC 11178 was first described by Albert Marth , who observed it on June 6, 1864 and identified it as a foggy object.
