NGC 6601 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Draco the northern sky . It is an estimated 371 million light years from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 6597 , NGC 6607 , NGC 6608 , NGC 6609 .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on August 4, 1883 .
