NGC 6588 is an asterism consisting of about 20 stars in the constellation Peacock . It was discovered on June 8, 1836 by John Herschel during an observation with an 18-inch reflecting telescope with “eF, S, among stars. A star about 6m Sp 10 ′ distant “, mistakenly mistaken for a galaxy and thus got an entry in the catalog.
