NGC 6566 is a 14.7 mag bright elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E0 in the constellation Dragon in the northern sky . It is an estimated 246 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 45,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered by Heinrich d'Arrest on October 27, 1861 .
