NGC 6549 = NGC 6550 is a 14.0 mag bright spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Hercules and about 307 million light years from Earth.
It forms an optical double galaxy with the galaxy NGC 6548, which is only a third that distant, and was discovered by Albert Marth on July 27, 1864 .
The observation of Édouard Stephan on July 19, 1882 led to a second entry in the catalog under NGC 6550 due to a misinterpretation by Dreyer .
