NGC 6579 is a 13.7 mag bright spiral galaxy of the Hubble type S in the constellation Hercules in the northern sky . It is an estimated 230 million light years from the Milky Way and about 25,000 light years across. Together with NGC 6580 , it forms the (optical) galaxy pair Holm 775 .

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 6571 , NGC 6576 , NGC 6577 , NGC 6586 .

The object was discovered by Albert Marth on August 7, 1864 .
