NGC 6603 is an open cluster of Trumpler type I1r in the constellation Sagittarius on the ecliptic . It lies within the small Sagittarius cloud (Messier 24) and is about 11,000 light years away from the solar system.
The object was discovered on July 15, 1830 by John Herschel .
