NGC 6616 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sab in the constellation Hercules at the northern sky . It is estimated to be 256 million light years from the Milky Way and about 105,000 light years in diameter.
The Type Ia supernova SN 2002dk was observed here.
The object was discovered by Lewis A. Swift on July 14, 1885 .
