NGC 6640 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Lyra the northern sky . It is estimated to be 313 million light years from the Milky Way and about 100,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered by Édouard Stephan on August 21, 1884 .
