Benedictus Polonus

Benedictus Polonus ( Polish: Benedykt Polak , * around 1200, † around 1280) was a Polish Franciscan from Wroclaw who took part in the journey of Johannes de Plano Carpini to Mongolia from 1245-47 . The aim of the trip was to move the Mongolian Great Khan to stop the raids on the Christian countries. After his return he wrote the travel chronicle De Itinere Fratrum Minorum ad Tartaros . The journey began on April 16, 1246 in Lyon and ended here on November 18, 1247.
