Benedict of Kefalonia
Benedict of Kefalonia († after 1239) was from 1207 to 1239, the first Latin Bishop of Kefalonia .
Life
He was a relative of Count Maio, who ruled the island at that time. In Benedict's more than 37-year term of office, there was the transition from a Greek to a Latin episcopate in Frankish Greece, the reorganization of the Church after the Fourth Lateran Council , the changing affiliations of the secular powers and finally the problems of the often uneducated and scandalous clergy that ruled during the first decades after the Fourth Crusade : Benedict was accused of simony , ignorance, negligence and sexual misconduct.
