The gasoline lead law limited since January 1, 1972, the additions of lead in petrol in the Federal Republic of Germany to 0.4 g / l and from 1 January 1976 to 0.15 g / l. In 1978 the European regulation 78/611 / EEC followed to limit the lead content to 0.4 g / l in fuels. On February 1, 1988, normal leaded petrol was banned, other types of petrol followed on January 1, 2000 at European level.
