Beppu Tower

The Beppu Tower ( Japanese 別 府 タ ワ ー beppu tawā ) is a broadcasting and observation tower in the Japanese city of Beppu ( Ōita prefecture , on the island of Kyūshū ).

The tower was built from 1956 to 1957 and opened on May 10, 1957 initially under the name " Viewing Center TV Tower" (観 光 セ ン タ ー テ レ ビ 塔kankō sentā terebitō ). In 1961 it got its current name.

The Beppu Tower is 100 meters high and has an all-round glazed viewing platform with a small restaurant at a height of 55 meters. Originally conceived as a tourist attraction, today the tower is mainly used as a television transmission tower due to its outdated structures and poor hygienic conditions.
