A mining educational trail (sometimes also a mining hiking trail ) is an educational trail that usually deals with the mining history of a district , a region or a mine . There are educational mining trails in many of Germany's former mining regions .

Mining educational trails are usually set up by local traditional mining associations in cooperation with the respective communities and then supervised by the associations.

Mostly they consist of different stations, which are explained by display boards and relate to material witnesses of the past mining. These can be existing buildings, heaps, railway embankments and the like.

Often the witnesses and display boards are the subject of vandalism.
