Bergfest (folk festival)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bergfest is an abbreviation for folk, local or church festivals in which a mountain acts as an event location or as an identity-giving namesake. In mining areas, the mountain festival was the social highlight of the year for miners. The program included the mountain service, a mountain parade and mountain music.

Such a mountain festival with a mining tradition took place on September 9, 2018 in Oelsnitz in the Ore Mountains based on the traditions in the Lugau-Oelsnitz coal field .

The name of the village or the mountain is usually added as an attribute for supra-regional differentiation. Well-known mountain festivals are the Bergkirchweih Erlangen and the mountain festival week of the pilgrimage church Maria Hilf in Amberg. Some events, which are now simply called "mountain festival", have emerged from former mountain gymnastics festivals or are still in this tradition today, such as B. the Feldberg Festival .
