The Bergfriedhof in Bad Friedrichshall was inaugurated in 1969 as a new cemetery for the districts of Kochendorf, Hagenbach and Plattenwald . It covers an area of around 45,000 square meters.

history

The original burial place in Kochendorf was near the Sebastianskirche , around 1600 the old cemetery was laid out, which - enlarged several times - soon after the Second World War was no longer sufficient for the growth of the place. The town council of Bad Friedrichshall therefore decided in the mid-1960s to build a new cemetery that would last for several generations. After lengthy discussions, the decision was made to create the new cemetery on a hill northeast of the town center, where orchards had previously been located.

In November 1966 the first drafts from garden architects were received and the land acquisition began. After the formation of a cemetery committee in December 1966, the Kochendorf architect Reinhold Dupper was commissioned to plan. At the turn of the year 1967/68, the land was cleared and the construction work was awarded in February 1968. The cemetery was inaugurated on November 19, 1969, but its completion, which spanned several sections, dragged on into the following years. The construction costs amounted to 750,000 DM. The cemetery on the edge of the forest of the forest huts blends in with the existing natural surroundings with its trees and bushes .

In November 1984, the conception of the cemetery was changed so that future grave fields could also be created with mechanical excavation. In 1997, when the urn fields were expanded, an urn wall was also built, which was again planned by Dupper from Kochendorf.
