The Ring Deutscher Bergingenieure eV (RDB) is the professional association of engineers , technicians and managers in the extraction and refinement of raw materials in Germany . The main board has its seat in Essen , in addition there are 43 district associations. Of these, 14 district associations are represented with their own homepage.

history

In 1949 supervisors in the mining industry united to form an interest group and on May 13, 1949 founded a professional association under the name “Ring Former Bergschüler” (ReB). The goals of this association were and are the advanced training, the exchange of operational experience, the safeguarding of professional interests as well as the cultivation of the mining camaraderie and tradition.

In 1960 the education politicians introduced a new regulation of the engineering with corresponding laws of the federal and state governments. A prerequisite for the reorganization of the vocational education system was the dissolution of the "old" mountain and engineering schools. The dissolved units of this school type were replaced by new facilities with a wide range of educational opportunities. This resulted in the need to demand different entry requirements, course content and degrees. Taking these criteria into account, "technical colleges" on the one hand and "universities of applied sciences in the academic field" on the other hand were newly established and operated.

Graduates of the newly established technical colleges for mining technology are awarded the title of “state-certified technician”, while graduates with a professional qualification from a technical college or scientific university are awarded the university degree of “graduate engineer”.

The mining school graduates recognized the need to take the initiative to adapt to the new legislation, and on May 26, 1962 renamed the “ReB” to “Ring Deutscher Bergingenieure” (RDB).

The association brings together engineers, state-certified technicians and other managers within and outside of the mining industry, as well as lecturers, students and technical school students from technical or comparable educational institutions.

The RDB is dedicated to its goals and tasks in partnership with the mining companies, trade unions and other professional associations and wants to make a contribution to the common good that goes beyond the group's interests. The RDB is non-denominational, politically and unionized. Due to the nationwide expansion, a structure is required that also summarizes the regional interests of the members and promotes them accordingly.

Promotion of advanced and advanced training in the technical and socio-political area occupy a large area and are an important prerequisite for professional qualification. Further training measures - with technical, but also social, environmental and economic issues - are offered through seminars, lectures and publications by the district associations and district groups. One of the main tasks of these activities is to provide the members with sufficient information so that they can increase acceptance of the mining industry in dialogue with other interest groups.

In addition, knowledge and experience from applied mountain techniques are exchanged in a wide range between the district associations. They serve to look beyond the "edge of the respective area" and to get to know the challenges of other mining branches.

The preservation of professional interests has found its most important success so far in the recognition of the training paths to technician, engineer (grad.) And graduate engineer. For these tasks, among other things, the engineering committee has been set up which, on behalf of the main board, prepares statements on bills, new guidelines and training projects. The views of the RDB are discussed in intensive talks with technical college and technical college committees, school authorities and the school supervisory authority, in order to ensure equal opportunities for mountain school graduates compared to graduates from other comparable institutions by enforcing them with the responsible state authorities. A positive result of this work in the Ring Deutscher Bergingenieure was z. In 1995, for example, it was recorded, among other things, that graduates of operator training courses at German mountain schools were awarded the title of "Euro engineer" on application.

The RDB expressly promotes mining camaraderie. The joint mastering of exceptional situations with mutual help creates a community of like-minded people, which is cultivated in meetings and discussions, but also in daily interaction within the company. Dissatisfaction with state and social decisions about the future of mining and society has led to the RDB becoming involved in socio-political issues in recent years.

The maintenance of the mining comradeship also serves to preserve the mining tradition. From the district associations and district groups z. B. Excursions to historical mining areas carried out, cultural events offered and lectures held on mining history topics.

The RDB advises and represents its members in all questions arising from the employment relationship and social security. Legal protection is granted upon request and after approval by the main board.

The RPV will dedicate itself to further tasks over the next few years. The structural policy measures in the German hard coal mining industry are to be accompanied and shaped for the members in the district associations in a socially acceptable manner. Offers for "young retirees" as well as the involvement of young engineers and technicians in the RPV who did not find a job in the mining industry are to be listed here as examples. In addition, the connections to related associations and organizations will be further expanded and maintained in order to be able to emphasize its demands in public on a broad basis.

The association is structured as follows:

District associations
The members are recorded and supervised regionally in district associations. The district associations are run by their own board members according to a framework statute. Larger district clubs are also subdivided into district groups.
Main board
He runs the business, represents the RDB externally and directs the association's work. He maintains the connection to the district associations and coordinates work.
Delegate day
Every two years the delegates of the district associations meet to determine the work of the RDB through resolutions on motions and elections.
Extended Board
He looks after the members' interests between the delegate days and helps the main board with important decisions.

membership

When the association was founded, the members were almost exclusively mountain school graduates. Today the RPV adapts to developments and is also open to engineers, technicians and managers working outside of the mining industry, provided that their training corresponds to the statutes.

Can become a member:

  • anyone who has a training qualification that qualifies as a technical manager in mining,
  • anyone who has a degree that qualifies them to be a manager in technical or comparable areas,
  • Lecturers, teachers, students and technical school students in technical or comparable educational institutions.

The official organ of the RDB is the monthly magazine bergbau , which is sent to all members as part of the statutory fee . The work to produce the magazine is done by an editor-in-chief and 2 editors on a voluntary basis. The mining informed about the activities of the RPV and its district associations, represents the latest technical developments, reports on newly installed world techniques, dedicated to a variety of educational tasks and notes in commentaries on current affairs position. Each member can publish their technical or managerial knowledge in appropriate articles and essays in the journal.
